| We have 3 users with Quark 6.52 and when fonts are activated, they do not show up in the font menus. If we quit Quark and then relaunch it, the fonts are then visible. Anyone have any insight into this? |

Hi,
I have seen this to, but only with manually activated fonts. My problem is even reopening Quark 6.52 it won't see the fonts. Word and Quark 7 see them fine. I have deactivated fonts and 6.52 still sees them as open. The only way I could get around this was to clean the system font caches.
Best wishes

I had this problem with Quark 6.5 also: FontExplorer would work just fine wiith auto-opening fonts contained in a Quark file, but if I manually opened any fonts with FontExplorer, then Quark wouldn't recognize them, no matter what I tried.
This is what fixed it for me: In the FontExplorer prefs, select the Advanced tab, and then DESELECT the checkbox for "QuarkXPress 6.5 font-activation support (Not required for version 7)". I know this sounds exactly backwards from the way it should work, but I've done it on two different computers and it fixed the problem on both.
If some of you are still having the problem, see if this works for you, and please let me know if it does...

I had the same problem with Quark 6.52 and not being able to see manually activated fonts in Quark's font menu (although all fonts appeared correctly in Adobe CS2 programs). So I tried your suggestion and everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the tip.
Anyone else try this? or having problems once you uncheck the Quark 6.5 support? |

Well, I spoke too soon about solving this problem. It did work with some fonts, but then some others, like some Emigre fonts I have, still don't show up in Quark 6.5. So unfortunately, I am back to using the super-slow Suitcase Fusion until Linotype updates FontExplorer, or someone here comes up with a real fix.....
btw... I'm using Quark 6.5 and 10.4.6 |

You guys are great. Was having huge trouble activating some fonts that were there OK in the customer's Fonts Folder..(I'm in prepress). I'm on Quack 6.5, and preparing a customer's file for PostScript>printing.
Tried this way and that, (Suitcase XI was giving me dumb/lying messages about System Font conflicts, which I couldn't resolve anyway In XI).
At last I got them activated and actually got Quack to list 'em as happy and correct...WOW!
My thoughts on this as a newbie to FEX are; persevere with it, it's worth it to NOT have to use Suitcase.
What I ended up doing was to check the Quack 6.5 button in Prefs, but have auto activation ON. Least I think that's what I did...tried so many ways.
One dumb thing I was doing is that I was only removing the folder when I was removing for each attempt, and NOT the fonts in the Set...be careful if you are doing this when you are re-attempting to import...make sure you are dumping the contained fonts each time. I'm gonna beat this font utility intpo a useable shape if it - me...probably will.
Cheers FEXers! |

Has anyone found a real solution to this? I tried turning off the 'Quark 6.5 font activation support' - but still no joy.
I'm running on 10.4.8 and using quark 6.5
No matter what I try, the only way I can get manually OR auto-activated fonts to appear is if I restart quark AND lintoype fontExplorer! I lvoe this app so much, and want to continue to use it,. but this is the only bug that is driving me crazy!!! heeeellppp! |

This is a recent reply from Linotype help (online). The culprit is Quark 6.5, and it looks as though you just have to "work around" it. Having said that, I have a suspicion that using FEX's tools can clean things up, so that you can either use FEX OR Suitcase XI.
Weird, but anything that works, right?

I assume we are talking about Quark 6, which indeed has a problem with
auto-activating fonts. You will find a special option in your PREFERENCES,
under ADVANCED, which allows you activate this separately, as Quark does not
follow the auto-activation standard.
However, this does not always help. We would recommend going to TOOLS and
deleting your font caches, then to restart Quark.
Apart from that, updating to Quark 7 would be a good idea, since this
application seems to behave much better concerning font activation. |

I have already tried deleting the font caches, and tunring on (and some people say turn off!) the auto-activation in FontExplorer, but none of these fix the problem.
Indeed it would be good to upgrade to Quark 7 - but the cost of doing this across 6 machines in our studio is very expensive - just to get fonts to auto-activate! It would be good if someone has a better solution? |

The following method for allowing manually activated fonts to show in Quark 6.52 has worked for me.
1. Open FontExplorer X
2. From the Menu Bar, choose <strong>FontExplorer X</strong> > <strong>Preferences</strong>
3. Click on the <strong>Advanced</strong> icon
4. Uncheck "<em>Deactivate all fonts which have been activated during the active session on quit</em>"
5. Activate all desired fonts
6. Quit FontExplorer
7. Open FontExplorer X
8. Open Quark
After following these steps, the temperamental fonts should appear in the Quark font menu.
I got this idea from the comment thread at http://www.jasonsantamaria.com/archive/2005/09/13/fontexplorer_x.php |

Thanks nerdstargamer, I think you just gave me the ability to use FEX for Q6.52 as well as Indy for incoming print jobs. Have copied to my email at work. I wonder whether the latest upgrade might have fixed this anyway? Shall see. BTW, liked your other post on Adobe's font folder: n-o-w I get it...
Cheers |

Update on the update. Processed 2 more Quack jobs today using FEX. Using the steps as advised in the recent post above...no dramas! Beyond having to selectively activate and work around duplicate fonts in the Fonts folder the - supply with the job, it's worked well. Handles "faux" font styles as well...dontcha love to hate'em. |

Hi,
can you say a date of a new version? As a supporter it's not easy to handle all the unlucky quark6-users...
Greetings
